The 100th day of school is a milestone worth celebrating. Composting transforms the traditional 100th day celebration into a hands-on STEM experience where students see exactly how small daily actions create big environmental impact. Instead of counting paper clips or cotton balls, students count real compostable materials and watch them become something entirely new.
It's one of the simplest ways to make the number 100 meaningful while introducing students to natural systems they'll remember long after the celebration ends.
Activity: 100 Scraps to Soil
In this activity, students work together to collect 100 compostable items before adding them to a classroom worm bin or compost system. These items might include:
