Hands-On Sustainability, STEM Exploration, and Leadership for Every Girl Scout Level

Girl Scouts are natural changemakers. Our Girl Scouts Who Compost program gives them the tools, knowledge, and confidence to reduce waste, explore science, and protect the planet. Through a four-week STEAM-based curriculum, scouts build real-life sustainability skills, deepen their understanding of environmental issues, and engage in service activities that support their communities.

Program guides are available free of charge as digital downloads and include tiered, grade-specific activities for Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador levels.

"We had a blast with this! The girls loved making the compost bins - from feeling empowered to using power tools to decorating the outside of the compost bins, and of course holding our worms.

We tracked our bins over several weeks and learned about the science behind composting. We learned about our local community compost center and sparked ideas of ways we could share composting with our friends and families!

The girls put their hearts and knowledge into compost promotional posters and planned a service trip to the Prescott Community Compost Center to turn compost as a troop. Lastly, we celebrated with dirt cake and gummy worms, what a treat!"

Zero Waste Camps and Event Support

We help councils create zero-waste camps and gatherings through practical systems for sorting, composting, and recycling. This ensures girls experience sustainability in action through environmental solutions.

Onsite or Virtual Troop Workshops

We lead engaging sessions where girls build compost bins, investigate worm biology, run mini waste audits, or explore how food breaks down. These workshops emphasize confidence, curiosity, and teamwork.

Expand Environmental Learning with Our Early Childhood Composting Book

Girl Scouts looking to strengthen early childhood environmental education can add “The Wild West of Waste”, written by Let's Go Compost founder Lauren Click, to their shelves. The story introduces composting, soil health, and responsible resource use in an engaging, age-appropriate way for young readers. It pairs well with STEM storytimes, gardening activities, and sustainability programs for families.

Girl Scouts and educators can purchase the book through major retailers, and every sale directly supports our nonprofit’s free composting programs nationwide. Adding it to your collection, or donating a copy to a local school or library, expands access to hands-on learning while reinforcing community environmental literacy.

For bulk copies for programs, classroom kits, or giveaways, email us at hello@letsgocompost.org.
